Nice hotel with warm pool
The Hotel itself is well run. The Restaurant is pretty good. The indoor Pool is really warm (If not: ask for it) and works for kids.
In January Paul do Mar is not very lively. The seafront is walkable, but it is a long walk alongside closed closed buildings to the towns center. Only highlight: One Love Bar is happening at sunset just at the hotel's doorstep.

The staff made the hotel and the stay excellent!
The staff made the hotel and the stay excellent!!!! Everyone that we encountered, from the front desk to the cleaning staff to the food service personnel, were incredibly professional, friendly, helpful and accommodating!!!! The hotel was clean and neat! The half board option was plentiful and made fresh! They accommodated my food allergies and had enough options to make a GF diet work. Mealtimes were adequate for sleeping in and exploring the island into the early evening, but never cutting mealtimes close. Half board made the price very economical! The room had an ideal view of the ocean! The bed was large and comfortable. The cleaning staff made the room lovely every day! The indoor pool was warm and large enough to enjoy with a few more hotel guests. Parking was sufficient. WiFi worked well!
Just a few heads up for futures guests to be aware of. We had ants in our room that sought food we put in the cabinets and counter that were not in Tupperware containers. No fault of the hotel. Just a part of island life in the winter. Got rid of food and ants were gone. Drinks not included in half board option. Wish a bottle of water was included. Location is isolated for those seeking activities near Funchal. We enjoyed the quiet location! The locals are kind and welcoming to visitors. My spouse felt the bed was not as comfortable, but it was spacious and comfortable enough. Not everything in the hotel is up to date/refurbished. However, the view, staff, food and atmosphere quickly allowed us to overlook the little details. It appeared as if most things had been updated, but kitchenettes, bath tiles and bedroom furniture was a bit dated. Something easily overlooked with such a friendly place to stay for quite sometime.
